It’s here
The last book in The Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay, arrived in out library hot off the presses on Tuesday.
We had two trivia contests on Tuesday, one for middle school and one for high school. There were four winners who were the first to check the book out. Congratulations to Nate, Evan, Zoe, and Erin! I hope you are enjoying the book. We can’t wait to hear your reviews.
I am about one third of the way through the book and it is exciting! We had a debate in the library today on who we are routing for – Gale or Peeta. Which team are you on?
Welcome Back
Welcome back to school LJA Middle and High School students! I hope everyone had a great summer. I enjoyed mine both here in Hawaii and visiting family on the mainland.
I am looking forward to an exciting year in the library. The library will have a new website shortly to match the new LJA site.
We have lots of new books in the library. So come on over and check them out. Also we will be having a contest next week for the release of “Mockingjay” the third book in “The Hunger Games” trilogy. I can’t wait for this last book!!
I am looking forward to hearing about your summers and meeting our new students!
Summer Reading
It is hard to believe it is already summer! All middle and high school students have required summer reading for Language A next year. But many of you have asked about fun summer reading. Welcome Back
I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Spring Break! One of my friends from the mainland came out to visit during the break. We had a great time hiking, surfing, SUPing, going to the beach, and watching polo.
I did not get to read as many books as I have in the past – my record is 11 books over Spring Break! I did finally read “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” I really enjoyed it and laughed a lot!
Comment on this post and let me know what YOU read over spring break. We just got in several new titles that are highly anticipated sequels.
Check them out just to the right of this post. It is hard to believe we only have 9 weeks of school left before summer!
The Lightning Theif Triva Winners!
Congratulations to the winners of our Lightning Thief trivia contest. The Middle School Book Club hosted a trivia about the books on Friday at lunch.
The first place winner was 8th grader Jacob, he won a movie pass. Dylan, in sixth grade, won The Lightning Thief poster for second place.
We hope you enjoy your prizes! Have you seen the movie yet?

The library has been a very busy place the last few weeks. We had Library Weeks at the beginning of the month. Last week was AOI Water Week. It was a fun and educational experience for our teachers and students. Pictures of both will be coming soon!
Middle School Book Club met today. We are working on bookmarks that give student recommendations on new books to read.
High School Book Club meets next week Monday. We will be discussing “Graceling” by Kristin Cashore. I can’t wait to hear what everyone thought of the book! Come and join us even if you haven’t finished the book. Everyone is welcome! Monday at 2:35 in the library.
Library Week Final Winners
It is sad that our Library Weeks have officially ended. There was great student participation in all of the activities and generous donations from our parents! We are already looking forward to next year and have received a lot of great suggestions from many of you students.
Congratulations to Alanna the winner of the last High School trivia contest. Our library has 6,042 books. The grand prize went to Devon. I hope you girls enjoy your snacks and Borders gift card.
This week is Water Week for the 6-9th graders. I hope everyone enjoys the daily activities and learns a lot about the Areas of Interaction. I will see the 6-9th graders when they come to the library for Approaches to Learning. Can’t wait!
Grand Prize Drawing and “Iron Man”
Unfortunately, today is the last day of Library Week for High School. It was great week with visits from the 9th, 11th and some 12th graders. The 9th graders created some amazing vodcasts on books they have been reading. I was impressed by their creativity. Each one was very unique. I also got some great recommendations from them! I will post some of them to the library website.
Congratulations to the trivia winners on Wednesday and Thursday – Taylor & Graham. Maybe they will treat their friends to something from our concession stand! There is one last question for today. Check your email. The grand prize winner will be announced on Monday. All of the correct answers from this week will be placed in a hat. The winner will receive a $15 gift certificate to the Borders. Good Luck!
The movie today will be “Iron Man.” Come by and enjoy it with some popcorn! Happy Friday!
